What is Specific Chiropractic?
What To Expect!

What To Expect...

For many patients, Chiropractic is a new experience.

For others, you may have been to a chiropractor or several different types of  chiropractors over the years. You have likely experienced a variety of techniques and approaches with your chiropractic care.

A universal tenet for most doctors of chiropractic is the location and correction of vertebral subluxations (misaligned backbones) that are interfering with nerve conductivity between brain and body.

In this office, we only accept those patients that we truly feel we can help.

As well, we can only accept patients where we have the freedom to do the job thoroughly.

First Visit...

Consultation/History with the doctor to discuss you and or your family’s problems and chiropractic health needs.

A Comprehensive Chiropractic Examination will be performed to locate the cause of the problem. This will involve a series of non-invasive tests including ranges of motion, palpation, and posture checks.

A Computerized Thermal Gradient Study. (please refer to the "What is Specific Chiropractic" link in the task bar above).   For more accuracy, it is important to refrain from caffiene, alcohol, and nicotine for several hours prior to this diagnostic test.

Specific Chiropractic X-rays are necessary to be thorough in our approach to better evaluate your condition. If you have any previous films please bring them with you.

Second Visit...

A Report of Findings to explain your current condition and recommendations for the best way to correct the problem.

Another Computerized Thermal Gradient Study to compare against the first visit.

Initial Specific Chiropractic Adjustment to the spine if indicated at that time along with a post adjustment thermal gradient scan to monitor the effectiveness of the treatment.

Consecutive Visits...

A series of visits is usually necessary to correct the subluxation (misaligned vertebra) until it shows stability. Periodic progress exams may be performed as well to alter the approach to care as indicated.

Progress is determined first by a stabilization of the Computerized Thermal Imaging scans, then secondly by signs of balance with posture, ranges of motion, and palpation. Reduction of symptoms is the third criteria.

A common response to care is a lessening in frequency and severity of a complaint with time. Everyone is different. Some people take longer then others.  Your visit schedule is based on how well you adapt over time and not only by how you feel.

What NOT To Expect...

Do not expect the administration of drugs and medication. This is not within the Chiropractic scope of practice and neither does our profession desire it to be.

A Chiropractor's objective is to help your body heal normally and naturally as best as it can adapt to by removing nerve interference from the spine. Chiropractic is not about stimulating or inhibiting body systems by chemical influences.

Drugs and medications have there place in traumas and emergencies and situations where the body had broken down so much that natural repair may not be obtainable.

When necessary or indicated, a referral back to your MD may be needed.

When necessary or indicated, a referral to a physical therapist may be needed to strengthen or rehabilitate the spine once the chiropractic care is completed. It is logical that the spine should be aligned first before you strengthen the muscles that hold the vertebra in place.
